Prof. Dr. Alper Celik

Prof. Dr. Alper Celik has been serving in the fields of Diabetes Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Metabolic Surgery for more than 12 years. During these years he has successfully treated thousands of diabetes patients.

Alper Celik was born on 26 February 1975 in Aksaray. He completed his primary education at the Iskenderun Namık Kemal Primary School and his secondary education at the Iskenderun Istiklal Makzume Anatolian High School. In 1993, he started his medical education at the Ankara University Medical Faculty.

He began his general surgery specialization in 2000 at the Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital and completed his specialty in 2004. In 2005, he became lecturer at Gaziosmanpasa University in Tokat, first as a teaching assistant and later as Assistant Professor Doctor. In 2007, he worked at the Saitama Medical Center of Jichi Medical University in Japan as clinical and research fellow upon invitation of Prof. Dr. Fumio Konishi. He completed two research projects during this term and found the opportunity to work and research with Dr. Kazunori Kasama.

In 2008, he had the opportunity to work at the Sao Paolo Sao Camilio Hospital in Brazil, primarily with Dr. Ricardo Cohen and Dr. Louis Berti. Later, he worked together with Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala and Dr. Suren Ugale in India. During this time, he participated to the 1st ACMOMS (1st Asian Consensus Meeting on Metabolic Surgery) meeting as a voting member. In 2009, he completed his military service at the Ankara Gulhane Military Medical Academy. During his military service he attended Metabolic Syndrome Symposium held in Etimesgut Military Hospital, as speaker. In 2010 he trained in BPD (Biliopancreatic Diversion) with Prof. Nicola Scopinaro, who was the Chairman of the International Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Association in Genoa-Italy and the Chief Editor of the periodical Obesity Surgery. In the same year, he left his position at Gaziosmanpasa University and began to work as Assistant Professor Dr. at Yeni Yuzyil University within the Universal Hospitals Group.

In 2010, he took part in the 1st World Workshop regarding Ileal Interposition Surgery in Hyderabad, India and had the opportunity to work with Dr. Surendra Ugale and Dr. Aureo DePaula in relation to this procedure. In 2011, he acted as session moderator at the IFSO-APC (International Federation for Surgical Treatment of Obesity and Related Disorders-Asia Pacific Chapter) meeting held in Japan and was voting member at the consensus conference. Then, he attended the IFSO meeting held in Hamburg-Germany between 31 August and 3 September, 2011.

Dr. Celik, who became Associate Professor in June, set up the first Metabolic Surgery Unit of Turkey in Universal Taksim German Hospital on September 2011. He attended the Asia-Pacific Workshop on Metabolic Surgery for Type 2 Diabetes in February 2012 in Singapore and 2nd Ileal Interposition Workshop held in Hyderabad India in February 2012 and further attended the Metabolic Surgery Consensus Conference held at Bangalore. Dr. Celik, who became Associate Professor in June, set up the first Metabolic Surgery Unit of Turkey in Universal Taksim German Hospital on September 2011.

He attended the Asia-Pacific Workshop on Metabolic Surgery for Type 2 Diabetes in February 2012 in Singapore and 2nd Ileal Interposition Workshop held in Hyderabad India in February 2012 and further attended the Metabolic Surgery Consensus Conference held at Bangalore, India. He co-chaired the consensus during this conference. Afterwards, he attended AMESCON (Asia Middle East Surgery Conference) which was held in Dubai on March, 2012 and performed a speech. He also participated in the organization named “Diabetes Surgery BMI 24-34.
